Open Minds and Open Hearts

Terence Koh + Baby Jakes Birthday Party

Lucien was the priest/head ghost

It started in Thompkins.. and then they started walking. Everyone followed.. I really enjoyed watching the people of the neighborhood's faces and reactions...

Terence Koh is such a badass, man.

Then I stopped by White Slab and gave Keith a hug :) It made me happy because he's a really good friend to me.

and to my utter shock..... my $25 bottle of fog juice was still back there.. I figured it got mauled in the midst of Tim Barbers raging social... but I was really happy.. ummm PARTY ON.

and then to Jakes bday party...

I think everyone was making fun of me when I walked in "OMGGGGGG I LOVE THE AREA"
haha ;p

this tasted insane.. it was so good

albert is so fun

haha and a good sport

cool stamp, yo

I had this 3 day sobriety.. and then.. well.. I decided just to party on the weekend

James and I... we're still retracing our birth paths... bc we think we might have been separated at birth. High school!!!!!

and now.. all I can think about is how I want to work at Barneys 2 days a week and smoke weed <3

You see this is how it is in NYC... for every 8 "real friends" you think you have.. you really have maybe 1 that you can trust and is a true friend. 1 that actually gives a fuck.. and if you do have that one.. hold on to them really tight and take care of them.. and be there for them.. and have their back... because if you have no real friends in New York... then you're just shark bait.

Nageru Haneru

Yesterday was an odd mix of magick, serenity, and definitely something else. When I am able to put my thumb on it, I will let you know. But this I do know.. the world is speeding up and so is the human mind. I also got some life-talk from my friend Nina Hartmann.. I have so much respect for everything Nina does. Not only is she one of the most talented photographers I have EVER met and is younger then me.. her outlook on life is so pure and comes from the heart and is such a good person, it seemed like she was the only person I could turn to for trustable valid advice that could understand what I'm going through.

With that being said, Coco came over.. and I was letting her in.. I suddenly realized I was locked in my apartment. Her and the pizza man down stairs had to save me.. and then I stupidly shut the door and Coco and I got locked in my apartment for 3 hours. We started making a movie out of the saga bc I don't think anyone would believe me.. here's a clip when the chinese man came off the roof to take a "tour?"

Justin was djing this party in Meatpacking with my boyfriend Moby

I played video games in the back.. I was so happy

mah main squeeeeeze

Excited.. wifey is coming back early... Coco is producing, modelling, and working on a number of projects with me... I'm starting up a small casting agency on the side, I call "UNIQUE".. I am looking forward to meeting my intern coming in from Berlin in January... etc. The only thing that keeps my mood high is productivity. With that being said... don't fall off the box.

Im a free bird... freebird..birdieee bird bird. I dressed up and went to court today and my case was DISS-missed.. thats right.. I am an innocent freeeeee lady and the nypd should be ashamed.. ontop of that I met the nicest guys in line today from Brighton Beach who enlightened me on another life's dilemma... oh I am so glad I met them.. bc it all seems so hopeful now

oh the irony! it doesn't hurt my knee to run 8 miles.. but the pain is excruciating to ride my bike.

Spent the day with Coco.. lunch and daily inspiration aka the Tracey Emin show at Lehmann Maupin.. she's in my top 10.. one of my greatest inspirations. Her older work makes me cry.. I balled my eyes out in college when I read her biography.. at one point I even tried working for her.

got some film back.. gonna pick up another 2 rolls in an hour from the lab

thanks derek for the zine and the buttons :) now i send you something special.

There's People There Who Will Hurt You Bc Of You Who Are

I wanted to update my blog today.. but I really didn't know what to talk about. I think I might go back into hiding for awhile and concentrate on my work. Its a cruel world out there.

24 was about learning to love myself (even though I'm not quite there yet) but 25 is going to be about trying to be a kind person. It's a lot easier to talk a bunch of shit then say something nice.. and I really want to work on being an overall better understanding kind person..

Birthdays are notoriously miserable for me but yesterday was unexpectedly awesome. I'm really lucky to have amazing friends.. so irreplaceable. Without them, I'd just be sad.

I lost my phone last night.. between Congee and Max Fish. If anyone has Rich Kings telephone number.. please call him and invite him tonight.. and anyone else I forgot.. you're invited.

November 15, 1984

(acconci narrating a students script)

"That is why you should love life.. there's lot of things in life that seem bad but since life only happens once and there is only one you... love life while you can no matter what happens. If you feel sad atleast you can feel sad, if you were worried at least you can be worried. You exsist. You are alive. If you love life this way, when it comes time to die you will be happy because death is the perfect end to life. Life is only good because death ends it. So live and love life because you don't even know how when or why but since you're alive.. you're going to die."

It's my birthday... the best birthday present I got so far this year is from Eva Michon at Bad Day Magazine... Vito Acconci.. at his studio.. I'm so excited I get to photograph him today.

Also Happy Birthday to Mike Ley, Georgia O'Keefe (r.i.p), Old Dirty Bastard, and Ben Rayners brother.. hehe

Animal Farm & Meisel

I'm collecting inspiration for a mood board for a new magazine project I'm working on about women (I don't want to give away too much) when I found this video... 15 years old.... thats seriously disgusting.

And on an up note.. I'll end this post with some of my favorite fashion work ever.. shot by Steven Meisel entitled "State of Emergency" for Italian Vogue (September 2006). I remember when I first saw this.. it blew my mind.

Many people were upset by this campaign and referred to Meisel as a misogynist... but I felt like this was aimed more at corrupt society.. authority... human behaviour, police. I mean yes this is fetish... and these models look drop dead gorgeous.. but its a fashion editorial.. these woman aren't supposed to look haggard.

And even when oppressed by the pigs shoe on her throat.. she remains stunning and composed. A true lady. *Note the red dress... a color often associated with: temper, anger, danger.. It brings focus to the essence of life and living with emphasis on survival*

This is my favorite image in the editorial. This stuff happens all the time. I wouldn't consider this image glamorizing the act... it's one of those images that has the capability to make change in society.. even on the level of what it is (fashion.) And that's why Meisel is one of the greatest (fashion) photographers of all time.. because his work isn't on some wussy pussy "I'm afraid to say what I think because it might offend others" status.. its bold and honest.. and truthful. People want the truth.

Look at the cops expression.. its menacing and egotistical... someone who enjoys abusing his authority. Everything is calculated.. this editorial is perfection

Notice she is standing when inspected by the woman

And down on her knees with the male officers... this is another favorite of the editorial. The guard dog was a magnificent touch.

(Models: Hilary Rhoda & Iselin Steiro)

Now back to mood boarding. Hope everyone has a happy Sunday.

Earhart's Final Resting Place Believed Found

Oct. 23, 2009 -- Legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhart most likely died on an uninhabited tropical island in the southwestern Pacific republic of Kiribati, according to researchers at The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR).

Tall, slender, blonde and brave, Earhart disappeared while flying over the Pacific Ocean on July 2, 1937 in a record attempt to fly around the world at the equator. Her final resting place has long been a mystery.

For years, Richard Gillespie, TIGHAR's executive director and author of the book "Finding Amelia," and his crew have been searching the Nikumaroro island for evidence of Earhart. A tiny coral atoll, Nikumaroro was some 300 miles southeast of Earhart's target destination, Howland Island.

A number of artifacts recovered by TIGHAR would suggest that Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, made a forced landing on the island's smooth, flat coral reef.

According to Gillespie, who is set to embark on a new $500,000 Nikumaroro expedition next summer, the two became castaways and eventually died there.

"We know that in 1940 British Colonial Service officer Gerald Gallagher recovered a partial skeleton of a castaway on Nikumaroro. Unfortunately, those bones have now been lost," Gillespie said.

The archival record by Gallagher suggests that the bones were found in a remote area of the island, in a place that was unlikely to have been seen during an aerial search.

A woman's shoe, an empty bottle and a sextant box whose serial numbers are consistent with a type known to have been carried by Noonan were all found near the site where the bones were discovered.

"The reason why they found a partial skeleton is that many of the bones had been carried off by giant coconut crabs. There is a remote chance that some of the bones might still survive deep in crab burrows," Gillespie said.

Although she did not succeed in her around-the-world expedition, Earhart flew off into the legend just after her final radio transmission.

Books, movies and television specials about her disappearance abound as well as speculation about her fate. Theories proliferated that she was a spy, that she was captured by the Japanese, that she died in a prisoner-of-war camp, and that she survived and returned to live her life as a New Jersey housewife.

A new biopic about Earhart's life, starring Hilary Swank and Richard Gere, opens this weekend.

The general consensus has been that the plane had run out of fuel and crashed in the Pacific Ocean, somewhere near Howland Island.

But according to Gillespie, the "volume of evidence" TIGHAR has gathered suggests an alternative scenario.

"Propagation analysis of nearly 200 radio signals heard for several days after the disappearance make it virtually indisputable that the airplane was on land," Gillespie said.

Eventually, Earhart's twin-engine plane, the Electra, was ripped apart by Nikumaroro's strong waves and swept out into deep water, leaving no visible trace.

"The evidence is plentiful -- but not conclusive yet -- to support the hypothesis that Amelia landed and died on the island of Nikumaroro," forensic anthropologist Karen Ramey Burns told Discovery News.

The author of a book on Earhart, Burns believes that the strongest of the amassed evidence comes from the report related to the partial skeleton found by Gallagher.

"The skeleton was found to be consistent in appearance with females of European descent in the United States today, and the stature was consistent with that of Amelia Earhart," said Burns.

According to Burns, another piece of documentary evidence comes from the accounts of Lt. John O. Lambrecht, a U.S. Naval aviator participating in the search for Earhart's plane. Lambrecht reported "signs of recent habitation" on what was an officially uninhabited atoll.

Lambrechet's report begs the question: Why did no one follow up?

"I have stood in plain sight on Nikumaroro in a white shirt waving wildly as a helicopter flew over me and was not noticed until the video tape of the flight was examined," Burns said.

"I find it very easy to believe that Amelia and Fred would not have been seen by the pilot. If the Electra was not visible at the time, their last chance of rescue was lost in Lambrecht's notes," she added.

Abandoned on a desert island where temperatures often exceed 100 degrees, even in the shade, Earhart and Noonan likely eventually succumbed to any number of causes, including injury and infection, food poisoning from toxic fish, or simply dehydration.

The coconut crabs' great pincers would have done the rest, likely removing some of the last physical traces of this pioneering aviatrix.
